Although La Zagaleta is probably the ultimate place of residence within the Costa Del Sol there are other locations worth a mention that would fall fall within the higher bracket of luxury areas.
Sierra Blanca has always been held in high esteem as it is based directly on the Golden Mile, housing some truly palatial houses. The security level and exlcusivity level isn´t like the La Zagaleta estate, but you are compromising this for the proximity you have to the shops and restaurants of Marbella.
Los Monteros further east down the coast has some really great villas, particularly on the beachfront, this is where Antonio Banderas chose to have his holiday home when he visits Malaga. There is the eyesore of all the grafitti plastered all over the once salubrious 5 star Los Monteros Hotel, that seems to have now fallen foul of its employees, due to staff cutting by the new owner.
Close to La Zagaleta you have the El Madroñal development, this is set in the banahavis mountain ranges between Los Arqueros and Club Campo La Zagaleta. There are some fantastic villas within this area and the countryside is relatively ubspoiled.
